Explore Central & Eastern Europe’s Jewish Heritage

Venture to the homeland of the Ashkenazi Jews with a tour of Central and Eastern Europe. Prague’s Jewish community was once the largest in Europe, and remains one of the oldest, as visible in its synagogues, which are built in a variety of styles, from gothic to moorish/art nouveau. Once adoringly known as “Judapest,” Budapest has retained its sizable Jewish district, which features a variety of kosher restaurants and Europe’s largest synagogue. Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania was once called the Jerusalem of the north and until WWII was home to a strong Jewish community that dated back to the Karaites being relocated there from the Crimea by Grand Duke Vytautas in the 1200s.
